Veterinarians

Kirk Sholes, D.V.M.
  • Dr. Sholes joined the O'Neill Veterinary Clinic in October 1987. He grew up on a ranch south of Inman attending O'Neill Public High School and graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 1986. After a year of practice in a mixed animal clinic at Plainview, Nebraska, he moved back home to O'Neill as a mixed animal practitioner at our clinic. Dr. Sholes's veterinary interests include bovine and equine practice. He especially enjoys equine reproduction and dentistry. Professional memberships include the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners.

Melissa Dykshorn, D.V.M.
  • Dr. Dykshorn is a part-time, associate veterinarian at the OVC. She joined our practice in February 2019. You will find her at the clinic on Tuesdays, Fridays, and every third Saturday. Dr. Dykshorn grew up on a diversified farm between Page and O'Neill. She attended undergraduate college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and completed veterinary school at Iowa State University. She earned her DVM in 2011 and practiced in Gothenburg, Nebraska until joining our clinic. Dr. Dykshorn's special interests include companion animal surgery and dentistry and bovine reproduction. Dr. Dykshorn is married to Jon, and they have four children. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, camping, gardening, and working on the family farm.

Clinic Staff

Hannah Connealy, Office Manager
  • Hannah joined the clinic in December of 2016 after graduating from Southeast Community College with an associates degree in Business and Accounting. Hannah grew up in Stanton, she moved to the area in 2016. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, Paisley, friends, and family.

Sandi Colman, Veterinarian Technician
  • Sandi is the senior tech and has been with the clinic since 2005. Sandi and her husband Chad, a farrier, live in O’Neill and have three children Cody, Taylor, and Wyatt. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and baking.

Sarah Stracke, Veterinary Technician
  • Sarah is a part- time technician who grew up in Chambers, NE and graduated as an LVT from NECC in Norfolk in 2017. She moved back to the area and joined the clinic in May of 2017. Sarah is married to Tyler, and they have two children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Nicole Beed, Veterinary Technician
  • Nicole joined the clinic in 2018 after graduating from NECC in Norfolk as an LVT. Outside of work, she enjoys spending her free time backpacking with her doggo, attending concerts, reading, & helping on her family’s ranch west of Chambers.
