Bob Owens DVM

Dr. Owens and his wife Vickie established the original practice in O'Neill on October 1, 1972. In 1973, Dr. Owens and Dr. Merton L. Dierks, from Ewing, Nebraska formed a partnership and eventually formed what is now the O'Neill Veterinary Clinic, north of O'Neill. His main areas of interest are on the cow/calf side and feedlot with a special emphasis on both reproductive and carcass ultrasound technologies. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and grandkids.  Dr. Owens retired the end of 2014.

Kirk Sholes DVM

Dr. Sholes joined the O'Neill Veterinary Clinic in October 1987. He grew up on a ranch south of Inman attending O'Neill Public High School and graduated from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 1986. After a year of practice in a mixed animal clinic at Plainview, Nebraska, he moved back home to O'Neill as a mixed animal practitioner at our clinic. Dr. Sholes' veterinary interests include bovine and equine practice and especially equine reproduction and dentistry. Professional memberships include the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners. He has been a member of the O'Neill Volunteer Fire Department since 1989. Dr. Sholes and his wife, Karen, have five children.


Bodie belongs to Dr. Sholes.  He comes to the clinic every day and is eager to meet everyone at the door!




Nate Dierks DVM

Dr. Dierks will be joining the practice after graduation this spring.  He grew up on a ranch northeast of Bartlett, received a bachelors degree in Animal Science from UNL, and will be graduation in May from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  His veterinary interest include equine and bovine practice, especially bovine reproduction.  He is married to Chelsey, who will be attending PA school through UNMC this fall.  


Sandi Colman - Veterinary Technician

Sandy is the senior tech and has been with the clinic since 2005. Sandy and her husband Chad, a farrier, live in O’Neill and are raising their three children Cody, Taylor and Wyatt. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, hunting and traveling with her kids to watch them compete.

Keylee Forker- Licensed Veterinary Technician 

Keylee grew up in Plainview, NE.  She attended Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in 2014 and graduated in 2014 as a veterinary technician in 2016.  Her family recently moved to Verdigre where they own and operate their feedlot.  When she is not working she enjoys helphing her dad at the feedlot, hunting, and spending time with her boyfried, Matt Tomjack.

Sarah Mahony- Groomer and Veterinary Technician 

Sarah joined the clinic in February 2012. She grew up on a ranch/farm in Ravenna, NE and she graduated from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, NE as a veterinary technician. After college she moved to O'Neill and married Curt Mahony. In her free time she enjoys working with Curt on their family ranch.  Curt and Sarah have two children.  She is currently part time at the clinic to spend more time with her growing family.
